Faith Evans is in no way new to the game. First signing to Bad Boy Records in 1994, the “First Lady” has been delivering soulful Hip Hop and R&B for over 20 years. Faith Evans has a book under her belt, a biopic in the making and now a brand new duet album that features her late and great husband, The Notorious B.I.G. titled “The King and I“.
Faith has already released a couple of tracks from the up coming album, recently she has released the new single “Ten Wife Commandments“.
The new track is a reworking of Biggie’s “Ten Crack Commandments“. Commandments shows Faith singing new verses around snippets of Biggie’s original vocals (You hear Biggie calling out the numbers of each commandment as Faith describes what each commandment entails).
Never let no chick know what you and your man do in the bedroom
Gotta keep your feelings and your money separated
Tell him you love him before he steps out the door.
The track will definitely bring forth positive nostalgia for Hip Hop heads and Biggie fans. However, the track does have a “dated” feel to it for it is a reworking of a 90s song. There are added bass lines and instrumentation but not enough to make it sound current. With that, Commandments might find some trouble finding a place on mainstream urban radio.
To really sell this album, Faith might want to release a track that can easily be played in clubs today but still gives you the essence of Biggie.
The King and I will be released on May 19th 2017 and is available for pre-order today. Make sure to purchase Ten Wife Commandments on iTunes and stream the track on all music digital outlets!
